“Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.” (Matthew 22:37-40 KJV)
The 18th century hymn writer, Isaac Watts, penned these words.
“Come, we that love the Lord,
And let our joys be known;
Join in a song with sweet accord,
And thus surround the throne.”
Think about that “first” commandment. Putting all one’s heart, soul, and mind into a single intent and purpose: loving God.
Today, right now, pull all of that love into sharp focus. Then eject it out in the words of your favorite worship song. A melody in sweet harmony with all others who love him too. Perhaps you only need to hum it. But in whatever way you express it, your joys will be known and you will be in the throne zone.
There is no greater encouragement than to live in a constant love relationship with our God. If we will do this, then loving our neighbors will be easier. Sometimes we just need to shake ourselves and remember that.
A contemporary songwriter expressed his desire like this:
“Boundless love, come carry me to the place where I at last am free.
Where I belong and you will be, Where all of you is all of me
Boundless love come carry me.”
Dear Father, thank you for your boundless love. Enable us to return your love with our devotion and service. This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN
Be encouraged today in Christ’s boundless love,
