Strength and Inheritance

“My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” (Psalm 73:26 NIV)

Lee knew that he needed some time alone with God. The pain in his heart told him that God alone could respond to his issues. He was already becoming bitter about the betrayal and for the last few days, Lee had been raging around like a bull in a china shop. He felt alone and empty. His was a topsy-turvy world . . . an emotional rollercoaster. Despite the hurt and discouragement, Lee could feel the Spirit’s tug for fellowship. He sensed that God was offering his hand.

Lee needed to talk to someone, but he couldn’t talk with his pastor because his pastor had betrayed him. He wasn’t certain he could talked to God because God had allowed him to be hurt. He bitterly decided that no one could be trusted. He was alone in the world. As the tears flowed, Lee began to hear voices . . . a voice really.

At first he thought he was dreaming, yet he was not in a trance. He looked around the woods where he had parked. No one was visible. Still, he had distinctly heard, “I am with you always and I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

Lee got out of his truck and fell on his knees. He poured out his heart to the only one who knew his pain and agony. He thanked God for being his strength and his inheritance. He knew that God would never fail him, even if others did.

Dear Father, thank you for being our rock of strength and our inheritance. Though others may fail us, we know that you walk close beside us. Empower us with this confidence. This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN

Be encouraged today in God . . . our strength and our inheritance,
