Hidden Manna

“Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.” (Revelation 2:16-17 KJV)

In the Sinai wilderness, Jacob’s descendants awoke one morning to find a white substance lying on top of the dew. They named it manna because they didn’t know what it was (Exodus 16:14-15). Moses explained, “This is the bread which the LORD hath given you to eat” (v. 15).” God given food. It sustained this tribal family for forty years, until they entered the promised land of Canaan.

In John’s narrative of the Gospel, Jesus explains three points to his audience: (1) God provided that manna then and God is providing the real manna now(Jn. 6:32); and (2) even though Jacob’s children ate that Sinai manna, they still died (Jn. 6:49); and (3) those who will eat this real manna will never die (Jn. 6:51 & 58).

The living bread sent from God . . . hidden from those who refuse to believe in and receive Christ as the Savior. Yet, it is a promise to those who repent and become conquerors. A promise that eternal life-sustaining food will be given. A promise that a stone of purity will be given. A promise that a new name will be given. No curse of death. No curse of corruption. No curse of the past.

Dear Father, thank your for the living bread that you sent to us in Christ Jesus. Empower us to repent and to conquer all obstacles — physical and spiritual. This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN

Be encouraged today in the living bread from God,
