God’s Will and Plan

“There is a way which seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death.” Proverbs 14:12 (NAS)

As she came down the street, Cheryl almost ran over a turtle going slowly, determinedly toward the busy entrance into the neighborhood. Since she couldn’t pull over, Cheryl continued on to her own driveway, parked and ran back to pick up the turtle.

The street ended at a swamp and undergrowth. This might be the haven Turtle needed. It would certainly be safe from danger. When placed on the ground, however, Turtle surveyed the new environment for a few minutes then determinedly set out in the direction toward the busy intersection as before. Three times Cheryl turned Turtle around toward the swamp and each time Turtle started back in his original direction.

How many times in our lives has God stopped us, picked us up, turned us around and pointed us in a new direction away from danger? How many times have we struggled to return to our own way, our own direction, our own agenda? How many times have we failed to yield to the will of Him who directs our life?

Dear Father, thank you for directing our lives. Forgive us our failures to recognize your interruptions and new directions. Teach us your ways and give us the strength to turn from our own. This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN
