“And God said, “Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: livestock, creatures that move along the ground, and wild animals, each according to its kind.” And it was so. God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good. Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground.” Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food.” (Genesis 1:24-29 NIV)
Sleepless nights are not unusual for responsible, conscientious people who are concerned about important issues that affect the family’s welfare. The economy goes south while the cost of living rises sharply in a northerly direction.
Naturally, such worries make it difficult to get a good night’s rest. Worry further complicates life and spirits spiral down. So, all things prayerfully considered, we might want to pursue a different perspective. Instead of worry, begin to apply God’s promises and blessings to our concerns.
Yes, it is sometimes easier to focus on problems than to look for solutions. Can you imagine the challenge that Adam and Eve faced? God’s command was, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it.” Of course they may not have understood the magnitude of their objective. But God promised them every thing they needed to sustain them while they pursued his directive.
Good economy or not so good, God’s promises still stand: I give you everything you need to achieve my will. God’s will, plan, and purpose . . . now there’s a real concern! But instead of worry, we can enjoy his blessings and believe his promises!
Dear Father, thank you for supplying all our needs from your treasury. Empower us with a strong faith attitude. This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN
Be encouraged today with confidence in God’s promises,
