Glory and Honor

“O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens. Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger. When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him? For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour. Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet: All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field; The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas. O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!” Psalm 8 (KJV)

What a marvelous privilege to know His Most Excellent Majesty. His glory surpasses all the beauty found on any continent in this earth. His wisdom exceeds all the knowledge and experience of all of earth’s “wise” men. Only God can use an infant’s strength to cause his enemies to cease and desist.

Consider the creation all around you. Note how he has placed the sun and moon in their respective orbits. He has hung the stars in their respective places and calls them by name. This whole universe is his handiwork. There is infinite space available to his creative impulse. So, why would he think about us humans? Why did he visit us?

Consider that he placed us just a little lower than himself and other celestial beings, yet he crowned us with glory and honor. He placed all of his creations under the power and authority of human beings. He didn’t just visit mankind, he lifted us up to glory and honor!

He didn’t simply create and move on to the next project. Note his impact on his creation. He lifted us up. He saw potential in us. He raised our expectations. He gave us purpose. He gave us hope. So, why did he do this? The answer really is very simple yet enormously profound. He loves us! He wants us to love him.

Doesn’t it make you want to shout, “O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!”

Dear Father, thank you for revealing yourself to us. Thank you for the visitation of your son and our Savior, Jesus Christ. Glory to your holy and excellent name! We express this praise in the name of Jesus. AMEN

Be encouraged today in his glory and honor,
