The Riches of the Lord’s Blessing

“The blessing of the LORD makes a person rich, and he adds no sorrow with it.” (Proverbs 10:22 NLT)

Blessing of the Lord. What a concept! We do not comprehend, either the Lord’s idea of blessings or the depth of his blessings. Many times — dare I say every time — his blessings are disguised in pain and sorrow, troubles and obstacles. Why? We can ask him we see him.

Blessing . . . we usually recognize it after the fact, if it is disguised. But we claim it, if all is going well. Yet, the Lord blesses us every day — all day — despite the minute occurrences in our lives. We seem to have a struggle with claiming the Lord’s constant, abiding blessing. Somehow, we have deceived ourselves into thinking that minute-by-minute circumstances are evidence of the Lord’s favor or not.

Blessing of the Lord, however, is not so capricious. We are his children, if we have received adoption through Jesus Christ. So, if we are his children, then we may be confident of the Lord’s constant and abiding blessings, no matter what the immediate circumstances may be.

Blessing of the Lord enriches us. Blessing of the Lord does not include sorrow. Now there’s something to contemplate carefully. Why then is his blessings so disguised? Is it perhaps because we do not recognize the underlying benefits of the sorrowful event? Is it because we place to much emphasis on the sorrow, failing to see the blessing hidden there? Is it because the sorrow has nothing to do, whatsoever, with our blessing from the Lord? Hmmm!

Dear Father, thank you for your enriching blessings. Enable us to recognize your overriding blessings. This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN

Be courageous today in the riches of God’s blessings,
