To Him Be Glory

“And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.” (2Timothy 4:18 KJV)

We, who serve the Lord, sometimes experience sorrow, sadness, and disappointment in the course of our ministry. This seems to be Paul’s circumstances in our text verse. It isn’t discouragement. Rather, there is sadness that co-workers are experiencing distress and difficulties. There is sorrow in the midst of personal battles and betrayals. There is disappointment because people with great potential give up and quit or return to their old life.

Such realities tempt pastors to take things personal and question the value of continuing. Yet, at the end of the day, we are confident that the Lord, whom we serve, will deliver us from every evil designed by the enemy of God’s Kingdom. We are confident, I say, in his preserving grace and power.

Despite the physical difficulties and troubles that confront and hinder us, the Lord will give us grace to persevere. Despite the disappointment due to co-workers’ decisions, the Lord will preserve us to achieve his will and purpose for our lives. Despite those around us who abandon their faith in Christ, the Lord will deliver us from every evil work.

And he will preserve us “unto his heavenly kingdom.” Is it any wonder that we want to shout his praises? Despite everything that we encounter, God is on our side and since he is on our side the other side cannot defeat us!

To him we give all the glory for ever and ever. Amen!

Dear Father, thank you for your preserving grace in Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Empower us with a greater determination to persevere to the end. This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN

Be courageous today in giving God glory,
