“Plesant words are as a honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.” (Proverbs 16:24 KJV)
Two Oxford professors were friends and maintained a close relationship throughout their lives. One was a committed Christian, the other an avowed atheist. Each week they would get together to eat, fellowship, and discuss their current interests and writings.
The Christian encouraged his atheist friend to explore Christianity. The atheist encouraged his Christian friend to continue writing and seek publication for his fiction. The atheist went on to become the greatest Christian apologist of the twentieth century and the Christian wrote some of the finest fantasy stories ever written. If this friendship and mutual encouragement had not existed, then perhaps we would never have heard of C. S. Lewis and The Chronicles of Narnia or J.R.R. Tolkien and The Lord of the Rings.
No matter our state in life — young or not; successful or not; famous or not; rich or not — we all need this honey called encouragement. It can be the catalyst we need to change from who we are into who God intends us to be. Encouragement is always sweet to receive. It sooths, excites and otherwise produces lasting joy. It sitmulates achievement like nothing else can.
Author Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain) said, “One compliment can keep me going for a whole month.” Zig Ziglar said, “You never know when a moment and a few sincere words can have an impact on a life.” The wise teacher of Proverbs said, “Pleasant words are as a honecomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.”
Encouragement: the catalyst for life changes. Encouragement: salvation to troubled relationships. Encouragement: refreshment to weary, overwhelmed souls. Encouragement: inspiration to achieve potential. Encouragement: sweet to the soul . . . health to the bones.
Dear Father, thank you for encouraging us through Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Empower us to share the honey of encouragement with those around us. I pray this in the name of Jesus. AMEN
Be courageous today with your encouragement,
