The Searching Spirit

“The lamp of the LORD searches the spirit of a man; it searches out his inmost being.” Proverbs 20:27 (NIV)

Jim followed the nurse down the hall to the examining room. After his vitals were all recorded, Jim waited quietly until the doctor arrived. Greeting him courteously the doctor asked, “What’s the problem, Jim?”

Jim replied, “Well, I not sure. That’s what I’m here for. Give me a thorough physical exam, please. And determine if there is a problem or anything needs repair.”

The doctor took his light and peered into Jim’s ears, nose and throat. Then he took his stethoscope and listen to Jim’s heart, lungs, abdomen and back. Well, to put it mildly, he put Jim through the examination mill . . . head-to-toe. When all the test results were returned, he told Jim that he was in good physical condition. He just needed to get more exercise and watch what he ate.

I wonder if we don’t need to spend some time in God’s examination room. Would we get as good a spiritual report as Jim’s physical one?

Dear Father, thank you for your lamp that searches our spirit. “Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” (Psalm 139:23 KJV) This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN

Be courageous today under the Lord’s examination lamp,
