Jesus Christ, the Perfect Brother

In bringing many sons to glory, it was fitting that God, for whom and through whom everything exists, should make the author of their salvation perfect through suffering. Both the one who makes men holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers. He says, “I will declare your name to my brothers; in the presence of the congregation I will sing your praises.” (Hebrews 2:10-12 NIV)

There is much to consider when accepting the incarnation of God. His becoming human was an essential element of God’s plan to bring many children into his house. His suffering as the Christ was an essential element in this marvelous purpose to secure the eternal salvation of all who would believe in him.

Think about it! The Eternal God desired to make us a part of his family. And not only desired to do it, but acted to make it a reality. While we were only a distant idea in the mind of past ancestry, God was working on his sacrifice for our eternal salvation.

It is very difficult for us to realize the commonality of the Holy One with those who need holiness. Yet, He says, “the one who makes men holy and those who are made holy are of the same family.” And since we are of the same family, Jesus is not ashamed to call us “brothers.”

So, as one of us, He came to rescue his brothers and sisters from the bondage of sin and death. He surrendered himself to a bondage He had never known so that his family could have a freedom they had never known.

He locked himself in our weakness to give us his strength. He allowed himself to thirst and hunger to give us his banquet table. He died that we would live. He willingly accepted darkness to give us light. He took our sin upon himself so we could take his righteousness upon ourselves. He declared the Father to us and praised him among us! Truly He is not ashamed to call us “brother or sister.”

Dear Father, thank you for making us holy through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Empower us with a firm faith that we would also not be ashamed to call him our brother. This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN

Be courageous today in declaring the name of our perfect brother,
