Flood Or Covenant?

“I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth.” (Genesis 9:13 KJV)

The Morton Salt makers have a unique slogan: When it rains it pours. I have heard this slogan all my life. Maybe you have too! The thing is that as I was growing up, it was usually in connection with a flood of troubles and trials. I could never figure out how troubles made my mother think of the salt. Yet, every time mom would get overwhelmed, she said, “when it rains it pours!”

After the Flood, God determined that he didn’t want to repeat it again. I don’t know why. Maybe he decided that human beings needed to have some assurance about him. Maybe he didn’t want them walking around in constant fear.

He didn’t want us to think, “when it rains it floods.” He didn’t want us to associate rain with his wrath and destruction. He must have wanted us to focus on the solution to our sins rather than the judgment of those sins. We will have hope when our faith is grounded in God’s grace rather than the perils of his judgment.

Know that judgment and wrath await those who ignore and reject God’s salvation, but every rainbow reminds both God and us that his grace supersedes his judgment. Let us focus on the hope of salvation rather than the wrath of judgment.

Is your focus on the flood or the rainbow? Is the problem greater than you have ever seen? Are you looking for a solution? Remind yourself of the rainbow. It is God’s covenant with you that the flood will not come.

Don’t allow negative worries to rule you and your life. Decide to bask in the glory of God’s covenant and promises. Courageous people are just ordinary individuals who believe in God and his covenant. They know that he is leading them. They may go through the waters of troubles. Sometimes it may be overwhelming. They might have great trials, but one thing is certain, they are covered by his blood. What a covenant!

Dear Father, thank you for your covenant through Jesus Christ. Empower us to be certain that our lives are covered by his blood. This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN

Be courageous today and focus on God’s covenant,
