Sing Praises To God

“The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from violence.” (2Samuel 22:2-3 KJV)

On this beautiful October day. Our prayer and praise should match our mood. Warm . . . bright . . . and cheery! So far, this year has been a gratifying adventure. Aspects of our lives may not have been as secure as we would have liked and some are even now picking up the pieces, trying to move on. Yet we all can sing the words of David’s song above: The Lord is my rock, my fortress, my deliverer. I will trust in him!

David’s song was his personal testimony to the faithfulness of God. Yet, it also offers hope to those in despair. It proclaims protection for the abused; salvation for the lost; and refuge for the weary. In John 16:33 Jesus said, “In the world you will have tribulation: but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” Our Lord’s words are of great comfort to those who trust him. He has overcome the world!

Despite his position as the King of Israel, David called himself the servant of the Lord. Evidently, he considered serving God a greater honor than being the King of God’s people. David’s example teaches us better than any rules we may observe. We are able to enjoy the heat of David’s fire and see clearer by the light of his candle, because he promoted the interests of God’s kingdom over his own.

David’s song touches our souls because it covers every facet of human emotion and need. Our God and Savior Jesus Christ transcends every gut-wrenching circumstance we face. He forgives each person — every person — who put his/her trust in him. He is our good Shepherd who walks with us, therefore, we will fear no evil. And when the enemy backs us into a corner, we face him full of hope because our God has redeemed us from death, hell and the grave.

No matter what “storm of life” may occur, we know that our God will triumph over all. “Therefore I will give thanks unto thee, O LORD, among the heathen, and I will sing praises unto thy name” (2Samuel 22:50 KJV).

Dear Father, thank you for making us to triumph over the enemy of our soul. Empower us to sing praises to your name even in the face of our storms. This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN

Be courageous today and sing praises to God,
