Expressing Great Love

“And he turned
to the woman and said to Simon, ‘Do you see this woman? I entered your house,
but you gave me no water to wash my feet. She, on the other hand, has washed my
feet with her tears and dried them with her hair. You didn’t greet me with a
kiss, but since the time I came in she has kissed my feet continually. You
didn’t anoint my head with oil, but she has anointed my feet with expensive
perfume. So, understand this, her many sins are forgiven because she has
expressed her great love. But to those who are forgiven for small sins, they
only show their love in small ways.’ ” (Luke 7:44-47 SYS paraphrase)

Love! What a
marvelous concept of comfort! Love creates water where none is provided. Love
adapts when no towel is provided. Love assures where assurance is lacking. Love
kneels at our feet to prove that it is real. Love spares no expense and smells
good to boot. Love! What a marvelous concept!

How I treasure the
love I received from God through Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior. He expressed
his love by submitting to “the death of the cross” (Philippians 2:8).
No greater love has ever been shown than this. My desire is to return his love
with the same fervency that he has shown for me.

In addition, I
treasure the love of a wonderful woman . . . Bobbie Smith. When everyone else
(her friends and confidantes included) rejected me and avoided me, Bobbie shed
tears for me and expressed her love to me. When the world’s dirt clung to me
like glue and no one offered to clean me up, Bobbie bathed me in her love.

For more than forty
years Bobbie has anointed my life with the perfume of her love. No, she is not
Christ, but like the woman in our text above, I was so much in need of
forgiveness. And like Christ, Bobbie responded with so much forgiveness that
covered all my sins. She gave me the strength to lift my head and face scowling
family and friends. Words are not enough to express my appreciation and love
for her.

I do not know what
my life might be like today if Bobbie Smith had not forgiven me and restored my
life. I can not imagine living without her. Right after his salvation, Bobbie
is the greatest gift God could give to me. Her love is more precious to me than
anything else in this world.

Dear Father, thank
you for this love relationship I have with you. Thank you for the gift of
Bobbie’s love. Empower me to love you both with equal passion as you have
shown. This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN

Be strong and
courageous today and show your love,
