Committed Trust

“Commit
thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.”
(Psalm 37:5 KJV)

I sat
quietly in the counselor’s office, contemplating his question. What did I want
to do in retirement? I wasn’t sure, but that’s why I had come to his office. I
wanted to get a fresh perspective.

The
counselor said, “Do not think in terms of retiring from what you are doing.
Instead, think of what you are retiring to. There’s just so much golf
you can play. Just so much fishing you can do. What will you do when you’re
tired of golfing and fishing?”

His words
made good sense, but I didn’t know the answer to the question. Of course, he
let me off the hook. “You don’t have to decide today. You just need to
seriously think about it and decide before you are ready to retire.”

So, like I
had done when accepting the call to ministry, I simply committed my future to
the Lord. Suddenly, the load on my mind lifted. I know that I can trust the
Lord with my future. I know that He will act on my behalf and bring his will
for me to pass.

Dear
Father, thank you for my future. Empower me to continually trust you and allow
you to direct my paths. This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN

Be strong
and courageous today in committed trust,
