God’s Promise

“In hope of
eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world
began.” (Titus 1:2 KJV)

Last evening I
received a note that my nephew’s son is graduating this year, and it seems like
only yesterday that we were coddling him as the baby of the family. And now he
is graduating from university.

It would seem like
time doesn’t wait for anyone or anything. Time is moving forward. And here’s
the funny thing. Some things seem like “only yesterday” while others
seem like “ages ago.” It seems like ages since I was a child. It seems
like only yesterday that my children were toddlers. It seems like only
yesterday that I began my ministry. But it also seems like ages ago I preached
my first sermon.

We wonder where the
time went and why it swept past us so fast. Suddenly, we are feeling our age
and realize that “we are not as young as we used to be.” Such a
thought may bring smiles or tears . . . maybe both.

We humans deal with
such puzzles in the realm of moving time and it may, from time to time, test
our strength and endurance. Yet, we are guaranteed that one day we will regain
the vitality of life. It is a promise that our God made to everyone who believes
in his son, Jesus Christ. And he made this promise ages ago in eternity past .
. . even before he created the universe.

Now that can
certainly seems like ages ago, and some people seem to think it is a myth and
will never happen because as they say, “we’ve heard that all our lives and
it hasn’t happened yet.” But we are confident that our God cannot lie, so
his promise of eternal life is still good and will be fulfilled . . . no matter
when he made it or how much time has past.

Dear Father, thank
you for your eternal promise of life through Christ. Empower us with a
steadfast hope. This I pray in the name of Jesus. AMEN

Be strong and
courageous in sharing God’s promise,
