Renewed and Transformed

“Therefore
I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living
and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is
your spiritual service of worship. And do not be conformed to this
world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove
what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect. For
through the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think more
highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound
judgment, as God has allotted to each a measure of faith.” Romans 12:1-3 (NAS)

This
morning I woke up with brain activity. Praise the Lord! As I awoke, thought
began. How important thinking is to an individual. It affects every aspect of
our person, our emotions, our attitude, our beliefs, our present, our future,
and so forth.

In his
letter to the Roman believers, Paul constantly challenges the spirit of pride
and superiority. The thinking of his readers has been a constant theme. How
they thought and what they thought drove their attitudes, their faith, and
their spiritual growth. In today’s passage, he gives three basic instructions
for spiritual growth. First, present oneself as a living sacrifice of worship
(i.e., think worship). Second, renew the mind (i.e., transformed thinking).
Third, accept who you are and think correctly in faith (i.e., think soberly and
humbly).

The way we
think and what we think about can trap us or transform us. Out thoughts make us
arrogant or honest. Thinking empowers doubt or energizes faith. Our
thoughtfully considered perspective is extremely important to us. The race that
is set before us requires a renewed mind, sound judgment, and faith. Think
about it!

Dear
Father, thank you for thinking of us when we were not thinking of you. Enable
us to renew our minds. Empower us to be transformed into the image of your Son,
Jesus Christ. Grant that we may live as instruments of daily worship unto your
name. I pray this in the name of Jesus. AMEN

Be strong
and courageous today transformed and renewed,
