“For he hath
made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the
righteousness of God in him.” (2Corinthians 5:21 KJV)
In Maui, Hawaii on
Monday, Oct. 1, 2012, Sylvester and I went on a zip-line adventure (I’m not
sure that it was a good idea). The zip-line company requires participants to
complete a medical questionnaire and sign a waiver before allowing them to

Once all documents are signed and approved, they put you in a secure harness that can be attached to a cable stretching from point A to point B. The harness is constructed so that when attached to the zip-cable you are sitting upright as you zip to point B. After fitting you in the harness, your group climbs the mountainside to the first zip line. From there it is all downhill.
We had a tremendous time
and thoroughly enjoyed this adventure. Our zip-line company had 5 successive
lines that we zipped down, crossing deep ravines along the zip-line course. A
couple of them were very deep and looking down I thought, “they really want
me to ride this cable across this ravine?” Well, I said it aloud a few
times and the guides, Jimmy and Preston would teasingly say, “Remember,
you signed a liability wavier.”

Every time anyone,
particularly a woman, said something about the difficulty before us they would
repeat “Remember you signed a
liability waiver.” Although we weren’t confident of the safety
factors, our guides were and no one in our group was ever in any danger. We all
survived, but I broke a finger nail on the last zip which was 750 feet long
over an extremely deep gorge. I was traveling about 40 mph and holding very
tightly to the straps as instructed. After we were finished, I said that I had
broken a fingernail and Preston grinned
as he said, “Remember you signed a waiver.”

As I considered the
guide’s half-serious joke, I thought of the waiver Christ signed for me on
Calvary. He took all the liability and gave me grace and pardon. Just as we trusted the guides, Jimmy and
Preston, to get us safe from one side of a ravine to the other, you and I can
trust Christ to carry us safe from here to the other side. The risk was
finished at Calvary, I can trust him!!

Dear Father, thank
you for taking the risk on our behalf. Empower us to trust you for all
eternity. I pray this in the name of Jesus. AMEN
