God’s Sufficiency

“And God is
able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all
sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work.
(2Corinthians 9:8 NKJ)

On her way to the
Calgary Transit station, Marlie walked in a haze of anxiety, worried about her
future. As uncertain and fragile as life is, she could envision the concrete
beneath her feet opening up and swallowing her whole at her next step.

At the top of the
station platform, she began rummaging in her purse for her Transit card. It was
not in her purse and she didn’t know if she had enough cash to get home.
“Great!” she snarled to herself as she stood rigidly on the platform.
She frantically searched her purse and looked around as she found a few loose
coins. Nearby, a lone woman scrutinized Marlie as though she was meeting some
unknown person.

Very carefully,
Marlie counted her change and with dismay discovered that she did not have
enough to get home on the Transit system. Then she heard someone speak and she
looked up to see the unknown woman standing before her. “Do you need a
Transit card, my dear? she asked. As Marlie nodded, the lady held out a card
and said, “It is good until midnight. I hope you’ll have a blessed
evening.” And as she walked away she said, “Merry Christmas to you
and your family.”

Marlie breathed a
sigh of relief and called after the lady, “Thank you! Merry Christmas to
you too!” Then she whispered “Thank you Lord,” as she stepped
into the waiting Transit car, grinning from ear to ear.

At her stop, she
stepped from the Transit and walked the remaining five minutes home, amazed at
God’s provision. She had been overwhelmed by her fears, uncertain whether she
would have enough for future needs and God stepped into her lack with his
plenty. Then she heard his Spirit say, “You can trust me. I’ll always have
enough and more than enough to supply all your needs.”

Dear Father, thank
you for your glorious storehouse that supplies all our needs. Empower us with
faith to trust you for everything no matter how small it may seem to us. I ask
this in the name of Jesus. AMEN

Be strong and
courageous today trusting God’s sufficiency,
