for His indescribable gift!” 2 Corinthians 9:15 (NKJ)
Christopher wanted
to learn to yo-yo. It was only a small gift, but it had an almost magical
effect upon his dad. Chris had explained to his parents that yo-yoing appealed
to almost everyone. He bragged that he would become the Yo-Yo World Champion,
but they were not convinced. He told them it was silly and simple but loads of
fun and would make a great Christmas gift. Finally, they relented and allowed
him to go for lessons. They were certain that Chris would lose interest in a
few weeks. After all, the yo-yo only went up and down. He would soon get bored.

Of course with
lessons, one had to have a variety of yo-yos. Soon, yo-yos were scattered all
over their house. High-tech, low-tech, no-tech. Blue, green, red, white,
psychedelic, and even one that glowed and flashed as it spun. A few problems
developed from the yo-yoing. Chris received multiple bruises and managed to hit
his sister in the head on one occasion. Then there was the window that
shattered from a yo-yo gone awry. Maybe Dad would have to stop the madness.

But the week before
Christmas, Chris announced that his yo-yo class was giving an exhibition and
the family was invited to attend. At the exhibition, the yo-yo instructor
explained how the students had passed the first level of yo-yoing and would
demonstrate their skills for the audience. His parents watched with pride as
Chris’ yo-yo did its magic. That young face beaming with joy was worth all the
broken windows. Dad would remember this moment long after his son had outgrown
the yo-yo. This was the best Christmas gift Dad could have given himself.
