Normal

“Now the LORD
came and stood and called as at other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” And
Samuel answered, ‘Speak, for Your servant hears.’ Then the LORD said to Samuel:
‘Behold, I will do something in Israel at which both ears of everyone who hears
it will tingle.'” (1Samuel 3:10-11 NKJ)

In his Weird Because Normal Isn’t Working, Craig
Groeschel writes, “God invites us to dance to a different tune, because he
knows what’s truly going to satisfy and fulfill us.” Choosing to not
merely coast along life’s seashore may be easier than one thinks. It is
certainly better than normal and infinitely more gratifying.

From early
childhood, we experience normal. Our routines are set for us and our comfort
zone is created. During those early years, normal is cool and weird is . . .
you know . . . weird. Teenage years are about fitting in not about weird
individuality. The risk of marching to our own drum’s beat is anathema.
Then real life steps
up and shakes our normal apart. Tragedy, job loss, broken heart, something that
grinds away our normal. Everything we have done to stay normal slides away into
oblivion and things become different. We have trouble identifying the new
normal. It’s just different.
Perhaps God is doing
that new thing in us. Perhaps God wants a closer relationship with us. Perhaps
God is real after all. Think about it! Perhaps normal is not what God wants
from us. Perhaps God wants to be Lord of our lives. Perhaps God is calling us to
a place of intimacy in him. Only he knows what satisfies and fulfills us. Only
he knows what gets our attention.
Dear Father, thank
you for shaking us up. Empower me to hear when you speak and follow where you
lead. I pray this in the name of Jesus. AMEN
Accept the new
normal in Christ,
