Healthy

Now a certain man
was there who had an infirmity thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him lying
there, and knew that he already had been in that condition a long time, He said
to him, “Do you want to be made well?” The sick man answered Him, “Sir,
I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up; but while I
am coming, another steps down before me.” (John 5:5-7 NKJ)
There is a certain
measure of “safety” in illness. Those who are ill are allowed to
whimper and whine. Those who are well and healthy are required to smile and get
on with life. We make excuses for those who are ill. We expect the healthy to
be responsible.
So, the Lord’s
question to this man is a proper question: Do you want to be healthy? The
principle behind his question is good for all of us. Do you want to do better?
Improve? Learn?
In North America the
entitlement mentality and attitude has defeated many people. But when anyone
considers that he/she is entitled something strange occurs in him/her and
stagnation sets in.
But when we choose
health over illness; when we choose life over death something marvelous happens
to us and the miracle of God’s strength and compassion floods over us in ways
that are unexplainable. All that we can do is run and leap for joy giving praise
to the only one who delivers us.
We can take steps to
improve our circumstances and life or we can make excuses. The choice is ours.
Those who want to be healthy, even with all the demands of responsibility, will
discover new vistas and opportunities that were never available to them before.
Hallelujah!
Dear Father, thank
you for giving us healthy bodies with which to serve you. Empower us with a
transformed spirit and attitude and desire to improve. I pray this in the name
of Jesus. AMEN
