The Unlimited God

“Forever, O
LORD, Your word is settled in heaven. Your faithfulness endures to all
generations; You established the earth, and it abides. They continue this day
according to Your ordinances, For all are Your servants. Unless Your law had
been my delight, I would then have perished in my affliction. I will never
forget Your precepts, For by them You have given me life. I am Yours, save me;
For I have sought Your precepts. The wicked wait for me to destroy me, But I
will consider Your testimonies. I have seen the consummation of all perfection,
But Your commandment is exceedingly broad.” (Psalms 119:89-96 NKJ)
Human considerations
intrigue me. On the one hand, we believe in an omniscient God; an all-powerful
God. We proclaim that he is without peer and limits in all spheres within and
beyond our comprehension.
On the other hand,
we exaggerate our  limitations and
weaknesses. In fact, we limit our faith, too. Why do we claim his holiness,
then excuse our sinful practices? Why do we claim he is in control, but wallow
in doubt of his control over our circumstances? Why do we preach his enduring
faithfulness and doubt whether it has endured to our generation?
If the Word of the
unchanging God is settled, then it is settled for ever . . . past, present and
future! That means this: if he was faithful to his Word in the past, he will be
faithful to it here and now AND he will still be faithful to his Word in our
future. We do not serve a capricious God.
Praise his holy name!
I like what the
Psalmist says in today’s passage: If I had not loved God’s law, then my
afflictions would have destroyed me. What an incredible faith! Confident that
loving God’s commands and promises and lifestyle regulations will defeat the
enemy’s attacks. Confident that life resides in God’s Word. Certain that I am
his and he is mine, I will live by his Word and never reject his commands.
O for faith that
trusts God, even when the enemy comes to steal, kill and destroy! Despite my
circumstances, I know that God is faithful to his Word and to me, his servant.
As a human being, my limitations constantly plague me. My understanding and
wisdom is limited. The more I learn, the more I realize that I don’t understand
enough. But my trust is not in the perfection of human wisdom. My trust is in
the One whose wisdom is unlimited!
Dear Father, thank
you for the wisdom of your Word. Enable me to trust in your wisdom, even when I
do not understand the paths where you lead. I ask this in the name of Jesus.
AMEN
Trust the unlimited
God today,
