Forward

“Now the just
shall live by faith; But if anyone draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him.
But we are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to
the saving of the soul.” (Hebrews 10:38-39 NKJ)
“Memory is the
gift of God that death cannot erase.” This is the message on a plaque I
gave Bobbie several years ago after her mother died. There is confidence and
comfort in this positive perspective, but there is no desire to return to the
days of illness and disease.
Over the years,
Bobbie has stated many times how happy she is to live in this present era of
time. Her perspective? We don’t have to go down a trail in the dark to
“the outhouse.” We don’t have to beat our clothes on a rock at the
river or boil them in a black pot over a fire. We don’t have to put the milk
and other perishables in the well or a nearby spring to keep them cold. We
don’t need hand-fans at funerals. Thank God for modern conveniences!
It is a wonderful
experience to listen to “the old folks back home” reminisce about
what they call “the good ole days.” Twenty-first century youth sit in
awe of times without ipads, Subway and energy drinks. They simply can’t imagine
how we ever survived until now.
Remembering what our
parents and grandparents didn’t have makes us appreciate our blessings today.
And we fail to see how anyone would want to return to the difficulties and
inconveniences of that era. We are looking forward not backward.
Quick, do a prequel
to your life of faith-in-Christ. Why would anyone want to live in a pre-Christ
past of hardship, heartache, misery, trouble and destructive lifestyle? It is
difficult to see how anyone would think going back is better than going forward.
Thank God, we can
refuse to return to those destructive days of our past. By faith, we firmly
look forward to the day of salvation where there are no more sorrows, no more
failures, no more temptations and no memory of our past.
Dear Father, thank
you for salvation through Christ. Empower us with enduring faith “to the
saving of our soul.” I pray this in the name of Jesus. AMEN
Remember then press
forward in faith today,
