“For our boasting is this: the testimony of our conscience that we conducted ourselves in the world in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom but by the grace of God, and more abundantly toward you. ” (2 Corinthians 1:12 NKJ)
I sometimes wonder
how people come up with their elaborate schemes of belief. And when I challenge
them with the biblical context, they revert back to a complex argument they
have memorized from a currently popular book.
It escapes me how
some complex, theological argument that lacks a truly scriptural foundation can
be more effective than a simple testimony of faith. It is as though people are
looking for the next great idea. I am reminded of Paul’s warning about those who
claim student status but are never able to accept the simple truth of God’s
Word (2 Timothy 3:7 NKJ).

What about a simple
explanation flowing from a good conscience? That would be something to boast
about. Perhaps I couldn’t explain it theologically or even remember a
supportive Bible verse, but like the Samaritan woman, I could say, “Come
see a man who told me all things that I ever did” (John 4:29 NKJ).

A simple testimony
about simple faith from a simple conscience. The grace of God is not
complicated, but fleshly wisdom will never understand his simplicity. Our God
is a simple person . . . “If you do well, will you not be accepted?” (Genesis 4:7 NKJ).

And therein resides
the godly sincerity that boasts of a salvation which the world didn’t give and
cannot take away. No complex explanation that confuses unbelievers, just a
simple boast about what Christ has done for me, and more abundantly has done
for the whole world (John
3:16 NKJ).

Dear Father, thank
you for your simple gift of Christ. Empower me to live and share my testimony
in simplicity and godly sincerity. I pray this in the name of Jesus. AMEN
